Story of Rishikesh
The Beatles were by far the number one music band in the world and attracted media attention from all over the world to Rishikesh. Everyday outside the Ashram hundreds of photographers and media reporters from all parts of the world waited to take a glimpse of the Beatles with Maharishi.
This limelight made Rishikesh into a very desired destination for the spiritually inclined population, and the Maharishi Mahesh Yogi Ashram in Rishikesh is hence called as the birthplace of Western Spirituality. Due to the Beatles visit, the ashram is also referred to as the Beatles Ashram.
Maharishi Ayurveda
In the 1980s Maharishi wanted to introduce Ayurveda which is the Vedic way of living, to the world. At that time, a few organizations were manufacturing Ayurveda medicines and supplements, however they were not following the actual manufacturing processes and nor did their practice reflect consciousness-based Ayurveda in anyway.
The formulations also were tested in various labs and it was revealed that they had extremely high levels of heavy metals, pesticides, trace metals and other impurities which made it impossible to be at par with modern medicine and could not be legally exported out of India.
To spread Ayurveda globally, Maharishi made a union of the 30 best Ayurveda vaidyas in India headed by the 3 top vaidyas; Dr. Brihaspati Dev Triguna, Dr. Vasudev Dwivedi, Dr. Balraj Maharishi.
Together the organization created many benchmarks in Ayurveda manufacturing, R&D, doctor training & education, diagnosis, etc.
Some of the achievements of Maharishi Ayurveda is mentioned below.
1st organization to standardize Ayurveda Manufacturing- Setting benchmarks in Ayurveda industry by becoming the 1st to acquire ISO 9001, ISO 22,000 and GMP certification. (1992)
1stGlobal Ayurveda Organization- First to introduce Ayurveda in the U.S., Europe, Japan Australia, New Zealand and South Africa. (1986)
1st NABH Ayurveda Hospital- who is the first and NABH approved Ayurveda hospital in North India, which is visited by guests from all over the world. (1996)
1st to introduce Panchakarma Worldwide- Introduced Panchkarma by successfully conducting clinical trials for global recognition. (1990)
1st organization to train modern doctors the Knowledge of Ayurveda- Taught Ayurveda to over 10,000 doctors including 3000 foreign doctors practicing modern medicine.
